Artist Statement

In the silent calm of stills embrace
I am Light, boundless, free
I fly on wings as the Hookioi
Soaring, gliding, gaining the heights of destiny
Seven towering trees of ancient days,
Divine talismans of Taane Mahuta…
life giver, primal son of Heaven and Earth
Symbols of the cycles of life,
Children of the Gods, brothers of man
High above in this under realm… Ancient Hawaiki, the Fatherland,
Alight do I into the birdmans lair,
Silhouetted against hazy mystery, and yet…
A greeting, a knowing that I am home
I cast off once again
ever navigating the cosmic tides of dreamtime shores
Searching, wanting, longing for truth,
And peace, and wholeness…

…Rememberance dawns an aching truth
Cast back to this illusive world of light
Knowledge gained reveals more mystery
In the heart of mankind, the shackles of night,
Rumours and legends of fallen man,
Our mothers and wives burning alive
Our daughters ravaged, purity defiled
Religion and politics… The dual knife
Perpetuating fear, breeding contempt
Ever deepening the caverns of night
Conspiracy waved before us as if comic strip fantasies,
Genetics, the play ground of hidden reichs.

Yet safe in the heart the untouchable soul, far from the reaches of slavery and control,
where the dimmest of flames can be fanned to a blaze,
By the tantric dance of breaths life giving rays
Inward not outward the journey unfolds,
The pathway of Taane and Taawhaki of old,
we are seeds of antiquity nurtured with care,
sown in the temples of Rangiaatea
Soon to be stars, we children of light
One with the night at one with the light,
Turmoil and hardship the fertile soil of growth
Character flourishes when we prevail them both.
