Artist Statement

Tiki is symbolic of the first human being ever born to a woman, whose name was Tiki-au-aha. As you can see it resembles the foetus, or new born baby and was worn especially by women to promote fertility as this was its purpose. Usually made from greenstone, it is usually carved over decades from greenstone chisel blades or adze blades.
